February's Bottom Lines includes tips on digitizing forms and processes, a few big CFMA announcements, plus the latest Chat with the Chairman, Voices of CFMA, and more!

Join CFMA Chairman Kevin Booth every month as he talks to those who help shape CFMA into the organization it is.

In the tenth episode, Chairman Kevin sits down with Bruce Orr, the founder and Chief Data Scientist at ProNovos, to chat about his time in the construction industry as the "data guy," what to do with all your data, and the importance of practicing mindfulness. Plus, Bruce gets a big surprise after all the work he's done this year for CFMA's Diversity and Inclusion Task Force.

CFMA's podcast, Voices of CFMA is all about our members sharing their stories from, and experiences in, the construction industry.

For this month's episode, CFMA had a chance to talk with Andrea Williams, CCIFP, a Controller at Brookstone on her career path and the best advice she's received. And since February is Black History Month, we asked Andrea to talk about her experience as Black woman in the construction industry and how the conversation surrounding race and inclusion has changed due to the events in 2020.

A New Website Is Coming!

In the next few weeks, CFMA will be launching a brand new website featuring a robust content hub with more than 500 easy to find articles from Building Profits Magazine, Talking Trades, Talking Heavy, Bottom Lines, Confindex, and new digital only content!

This easy-to-use site will look great on all of your devices and feature a custom members-only toolbar that appears when you are logged in and will serve as centralized location for all your member benefits. We will be sending out an email to all members when we get closer to launching.

Transitioning to a new technology platform may help in some areas of a company but changing the technology won’t fix the problem if the underlying business processes remain outdated, manual, and largely paper based. Learn what updates you should be making to streamline your forms and processes here

CFMA is working hard to create a safe and unique conference experience. We will have more details coming soon, but you can mark your calendars now for this year’s event. It will be held on July 19-23, 2021. Location and registration details will be available in March.

2021 marks the beginning of the 40th year of CFMA as an association and one way CFMA is celebrating is by recognizing the emerging leader of tomorrow.

Know a CFMA under the age of 40 (born after 1981)? Let us know by submitting a nomination by February 26, 2021.

Many of CFMA’s members are doing great things throughout the year, which is why it was important for 2018-2019 Chairman Joe McLaughlin to find a way to recognize members on an ongoing basis.

The Chairman's Challenge Coin is based on the traditional military challenge coin and given to members of the Executive Committee who were responsible for acknowledging members for their “service and excellence.” Check out 2020-21's recipients.

CFMA is proud to announce that it has taken a significant step towards making the association more diverse and inclusive with the creation of the Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Committee.

On December 11, 2020, CFMA’s Executive Committee unanimously voted to develop the D&I Task Force into a Committee effective April 1, 2021. Until then, the Task Force will continue its work to increase diversity, inclusion, and cultural education for CFMA’s members and their companies. Read more about the D&I committee here.

When owners are ready to retire, they will likely sell to someone outside the family. If your balance sheet gets turned upside down in the process, your company might not be able to bid on projects that require bonds if the buying firm plans to use debt to achieve fast growth.

As a seller, you may be thinking, “That’s the new owner’s problem, not mine.” It is your problem, though, if your sale has an earn-out. Learn more.
