What is 5G?

What is 5G?

5G is the fifth generation telecommunications technology standard for internet-based cellular networks. 5G technology delivers increased internet speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second versus one gigabit per second speeds of 4G. That's 10 to x100 faster, depending on the use case. Separating itself even further from previous cellular network generation, it promises to deliver low latency communications, the likes of which we've never seen in wireless networks. Enhanced network capacity could improve IoT (Internet of Things) devices in cities that need faster communications between thousands of devices all at once. Think AI driven traffic safety equipment, smart cameras, and self-driving cars, to name just a few. But let's not get ahead of ourselves...

814

Mandatory 10-digit calling in the 814 area code begins soon!

In case you missed the news, beginning on April 3rd, everyone will need to dial the 814 area code when placing a call to anyone inside our area code.

Depending on your cell phone carrier, you might already be used to dialing 814 before placing a call. In any case, it might be a good idea to run through your contact list now and add 814 to make the adjustment easier.

Old tech isn’t just slowing you down

VNET TechTip: One bad email. That's all it takes...

Computers slow down over time. It happens gradually, so you don’t tend to notice it. Side by side, a three year old computer will be so much slower than the latest version.

But there’s another big downside to older computers that scares most IT professionals...

We explain it in this month’s video.

VNET TechTip

Don’t know how to do something in a Microsoft 365? Try the search box at the top of Microsoft’s apps.

The search box is very smart, and can often be the quickest way to determine how to do what you need to do.

Instead of Googling your question, this handy box will often take you straight to the button you need to press.

This can help save you a lot of time as it avoids the need to research online. It’ll also make sure you get an answer specific to your version of Word, Excel, or whichever Microsoft 365 app you’re using.

Email Hijack eBook

The days of hackers breaking into email just for fun or to cause havoc are long gone. These days, they are more likely to access an account and set up a hidden email forwarder. That means they can monitor all emails being sent to you. And from there, they can spot patterns, such as a large invoice sent by a key supplier on the same date each month. Then all they need to do is implement some clever social engineering such as sending a fake follow-up email with "new bank details" immediately after the real invoice has been received...

This exact scenario is the subject of our ebook. The title is "Email Hijack", and it shows you how to protect your business from precisely this kind of crime.

VNET 30 Years Trivia Question of the Month

22 years ago this month, the first e-mail virus to cause widespread damage and one of the fastest spreading viruses in history, was released into the wild on an early Friday morning. Within three days it would infect between 100,000 and 250,000 computers around the world. While the virus did not directly cause any damage, the sheer volume of e-mail that it generated crashed many corporate Microsoft e-mail servers. What was the name of this virus?
