Keep a Look Out for These Malware Traps

VNET TechTip: Look Out for These Malware Traps

We’ve been warning businesses for years that their email is the most likely place for a cyber-criminal to try to break into their IT system. But it’s not the only place. Here are some other malware scams to look out for.

Ransomware: A Wake Up Call

We see it all the time in countless T.V. shows and movies; a shady, hoody and jeans wearing character intensely types away on a keyboard for a few seconds, hits Enter, and up pops a schematic of the city’s transportation system on the screen. From here, the hacker changes traffic lights, turns off the water supply, and releases all the prisoners from cell block six in the state penitentiary.

Most of the time, this poorly conceived or misrepresented tech babble serves as a device to further the fictional story being told. But the recent Colonial Pipeline hack was a painful reminder of the devastating impact cybercrime can have on our lives...

Microsoft 365 Tip

If you like to keep your email neatly organized, here's a cool little trick.

Outlook can automatically file your email for you. It's then up to you to read them in order of importance – or interest.

  • Create a folder by hitting Ctrl + Shift + E
  • Automate filing into the folder
  • Right-click the email and click "Rules"
  • Choose "Always move messages from"
  • And select your new folder

A New Address: VNET.US

Over the last year, you might have noticed that we have been using VNET.US in some of our links and marketing materials. Over the remainder of this year, we intend to implement this truncated domain name where we currently use VELOCITYNETWORK.NET. Our goal is to make it easier for our customers and employees who frequently type this 19 character string for email, authentication, and website links.

In this age of bad actors on the internet, we feel that we must let you know that when you begin to see the VNET.US domain name in a link, for example, in this email, it is a legitimate address from your trusted MSP, VNET.

We'll update you as we progress!

VNET 30 Years Trivia Question of the Month

In 1994, the company that had a patent on GIFs tried to charge a fee for using them. A similar, yet superior image format was invented as an alternative, and so the company backed down. What was this new image format?
