Hello {"ANONYMIZED":"2023-04-26"},

If you even passively followed the national news, you're likely aware of the increasingly sophisticated cyber-attacks that have compromised organizations through the exploitation of malicious and benign software. Given the increase of these attacks on both large and small businesses, the Federal Government has updated its security recommendations to implement a Zero Trust architecture. In addition, Federal Agencies and organizations that do business with Agencies must meet these requirements as well. When you choose VNET as your managed services provider (MSP), the responsibility for protecting your business from these threats is on our shoulders. Have questions? Call us at (814) 833-9111 x.444 to schedule a call with one of our consultants.

With the summer winding down, we've prepared a special back-to-school article as well as a new guide on the lesser known Microsoft 365 apps you probably should check out. As always, there is new content for almost everyone, so be sure to check it all out!

New: Microsoft 365 Apps Guide

Microsoft 365 is like a treasure chest, full of delights waiting to be discovered.

Most businesses get it just to access Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams. And then they discover there are so many other apps included.

Find the right ones, and you can save time, increase productivity and motivation, and create a smoother workflow for everyone in your business.

A New Address is Coming

Over the remainder of 2021, we will be implementing a shorter domain name, VNET.US, where we currently use VELOCITYNETWORK.NET. Our goal is to make it easier for you and the team at VNET who frequently type this long 19 character string for email, authentication, and website links.

In this age of bad actors on the internet, we feel that we must let you know that when you begin to see the VNET.US domain name in a link, for example, in this email, it is a legitimate address from your trusted MSP, VNET.

We'll update you as we progress!

Congratulations to VNET Newsletter subscriber George T. who was selected at random after submitting his favorite tip from last months article and then shared a few tips of his own. He writes:

"My favorite tech tip is #1 on your list, "Save your passwords!" This is one of my pet peeves. With the technology available today, there is no excuse for not knowing your passwords. LastPass is my favorite, although they are pushing you towards their paid product by limiting the services available on the free product.

Another favorite App/Service is Evernote. Not a password manager, but an excellent program to securely hold information notes such as passwords and account numbers, banking info, etc. ... The Evernote app on the cell phone is locked by password or fingerprint to keep the info safe!"

George will receive a $25.00 gift card to Jimmy John's. Thanks to everyone who emailed in a response!

Back-to-School Basics

School is starting, and you know what that means—back-to-school shopping! Maybe you remember back-to-school shopping as a kid, when you would go to the store with your parents and pick out everything you needed for the year. You’d get things like trapper-keepers, no. 2 pencils, glue sticks, and clothes that actually fit, unlike the ones you grew out of from the previous year. It was one big shopping trip. But in today’s world, back-to-school shopping can look a little bit different. If you don’t want to, you don’t even have to set foot in a store because everything your kids need is available for purchase online. And the things you’ll be buying are different, too. For one thing, Trapper Keepers...

Microsoft 365 Tip

Is there a long email conversation going on between colleagues, and you're CC'd so you can't stop getting replies?

Microsoft 365 lets you ignore all email messages in a conversation, and will move future emails to your deleted items folder.

Select any message in a conversation. On the Home tab select the "Delete" group, then "Ignore". And select Ignore Conversation.

That's it! You can undo this by finding your conversation in deleted items, then Home -> Delete -> Ignore -> Stop Ignoring Conversation.

Security Guide

The biggest security threat to your business is on your payroll

Did you know there is a high probability that an inside attack will be the culprit for breaching your business’s data?

Most inside attacks are accidental, such as a well-meaning employee clicking on a bad link by mistake. However, some attacks are malicious, perpetrated by bad actors who deliberately look to damage your business or to make a profit.

Both of these kinds of attacks can be minimized and even prevented by focusing on five key areas in your IT strategy. Check out our new guide to assess the preparedness of your business.
