VNET Tech Insights – Issue 2

Hello {"ANONYMIZED":"2023-04-26"},

Here's a question, how much automation do you use in your business?

We believe that more businesses in the Erie area will embrace automation to become more efficient in 2022. Today, most software can talk to most other applications, making it easier to automate repetitive tasks.

Whenever a human has to repeat a task, there is a way to get software to automate it for you. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer just for big companies. It's being utilized in software available to businesses of all sizes. Many are already benefiting from AI without being aware of it. Even a standard set of tools, such as Microsoft 365, uses a level of AI to make work faster and life more manageable. However, one key thing will hold some businesses back from embracing these things. It's not cost, since using automation and AI will usually reduce overall costs.

What will hold many businesses back is fear.

We get that! However, as business leaders, we have a choice. Either we embrace the rapid change in technology and transform our businesses or we get left behind. That sounds dramatic, but things are evolving that fast.

But rest easy; VNET specializes in helping local businesses with strategic guidance and proactive IT support. We don't just support our clients, we partner with them in every way we can. That means getting involved in every aspect of their business to add value and make everyone's lives easier.

Learn Something New: Ringfencing and Why You Should Care

You might be familiar with the term "whitelist" or "allow list." Simply stated, these lists help to block all untrusted applications from running. However, they will not stop an attacker from weaponizing tools and applications that you do trust. This is why Ringfencing is critical when blocking these attacks...

It's Gotta Be The Shoes

A few months ago, the VNET team pitched in to have local entrepreneur, Katie Huntley, customize a pair of "Air Jordan 1 Mid" sneakers with a VNET/University of North Carolina theme for our CEO, Joel Deuterman.

The shoes feature the VNET blue and orange, the company and "30+ Years" logos, the names of his children, and the UNC logo and light blue on the (tar) heel. Also featured on the heel is Joel's graduation year and his signature.

Joel's not a sneaker head, but he did attend college with Michael Jordan at UNC, and this particular sneaker is a reproduction of the shoe from his graduation year. If you're ever at VNET, you might see them on display!

Multi-Factor Authentication

Microsoft foiled 9.6 billion attempted malware attacks in 2021. This is where cyber criminals try to fool you into clicking a link that installs malicious software on your device or network.

Plus, it blocked 25.6 billion attempts by hackers to access accounts by simply guessing the login details. These are called "brute force attacks." These simple tactics are still popular because not enough businesses take their security seriously.

So what can you do to best protect your business? Find out one simple, yet essential step in our latest video.
