After Covid-19 halted travel for much of 2020, the industry will look to rebound in 2021. Who is booking their next vacation and how are they doing so?

Leisure travel is on the rise. 3 in 4 business professionals said they are likely to take a leisure trip over the next year.

 

Business travel is also on the rise. Nearly half of senior executives plan on taking a business trip over the next year.

 

Most professionals are very likely or indifferent to using a plane or personal car for their next vacation. More than half are likely to rent a car.

 

 
 

Working parents will research their next vacation in the near future. More than 7 in 10 working parents will begin researching in 3 months. Professionals earning $100K+ will also research their next vacation in 3 months. 

 

Professionals are more comfortable flying if airlines have preventative measures against COVID-19. Limiting capacity and mask mandates are the two measures most likely to make fliers comfortable.

 

 

Younger professionals are more likely to feel as comfortable now as before the pandemic when staying in vacation rentals and hotels.

Most professionals researching their next leisure trip haven't booked yet. Nearly 2 in 3 business professionals researching their next vacation haven't booked their trip.

 

 

 

1 in 4 working parents will book their next vacation in the next 5 months. High income professionals also plan to book in the next 5 months.

 

 

 

More than half of business professionals are likely to use an online travel site when booking their next vacation. 

 

1 in 3 working parents are likely to select a vacation package when booking through a travel site. Flight-only remains the most popular selection when booking a vacation.

 

Professionals are twice as likely to use Airbnb than the second-leading option, VRBO, when booking a vacation rental in the next year.

 

Professionals are most likely to use Expedia or book directly when booking hotels.

 

 

The number of businesses professionals working at the office has nearly tripled since April.
