2022 was a busy and energising year for Industrial Trading Solutions. We welcomed new staff, celebrated 20 years of trading, enjoyed recognition from award nominations and wins, went live with our new online shop - ITS Lite, partnered with some great new suppliers and continued seeing successes in our sustainability and continuous improvement initiatives.
2023 is set to be just as exciting for ITS. We will be launching our new servicing and maintenance packages, will introduce you to fantastic new ITS branded solutions and continue to explore our range of sustainable offerings, give further availability of products through ITS Lite, and continue to support our customers with challenging projects, technical advice, site auditing and so much more.

To acknowledge us reaching our 20 years of trading milestone, we celebrated over a weekend at Drayton Manor Resort with staff, their families, suppliers, and friends. We wanted to say a big thank you to everyone for their commitment to the business, show appreciation for their support over the last 20 years and give some time out for fun and laughter. We all had an amazing time and made some great memories to take us on into the next 20 years…
ITS has been lucky to attend various BFBI events during 2022, all of which have provided us will great networking and collaboration opportunities. We value our membership with the BFBI and look forward to events during 2023.

This is further solidified with our pledge to become a carbon neutral business by 2040 through the SME Climate Hub.

Thanks to Garry Folds from Alfa Laval for providing our ITS engineers with invaluable expertise and knowledge on the servicing of plate and gasket heat exchangers.
The aim of the training session that took place last year, was to gain some more hands-on experience with overcoming challenges whilst carrying out servicing and maintenance on plate and gasket heat exchangers, and on this occasion, it was performed on a TL6-BFM unit.
Safeer Hussain BEng took part in the session and describes what they covered:
‘’Before loosening the tightening bolts, we checked the A dimension was as per the drawing so when we replace the plates and re tighten the unit, we can be sure the A dimension is correct, and the unit hasn’t been opened and put back together incorrectly prior to us opening it. We cleaned and greased the locking bolts and the carrying bar to allow for easy removal of the pressure plate and the plate pack.
We carefully removed each plate in a safe manner and subsequently learnt how to correctly re install the plates onto the carrying bar.
We understood how to read the plate list and how to align and re install each plate in the correct orientation to ensure the products flowing through the heat exchanger follow the correct heating/cooling path.
Also, when re assembling the plate pack it is hugely important to ensure all the gaskets are sitting correctly before tightening the bolts as this can cause for the gaskets to deform, for the plates to not seal against each other correctly and ultimately the HX would leak during production’’
Saf also commented:
‘’We combined the theory with the practical and were able to understand all the components that make up the HX and more interestingly we were able to understand the low and high theta plates and how this influences the heat transfer rate, turbulence, shear stresses all which are important to take into consideration when sizing heat exchangers. As well as the channels different combinations of the plates combined create and how these influence heat transfer.’’

Although we didn't win, we were immensely proud of the nomination and to be considered amongst some of the best businesses around the UK.
ITS & ANDERSON NEGELE SIGN A NEW SUPPLY PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT FOR HYGIENIC INSTRUMENTATION.
In December 2022, Industrial Trading Solutions were thrilled to announce a new partnership with
Anderson-Negele for Hygienic Instrumentation, ideal for processing facilities throughout the Food, Dairy, Brewery, Pharma or Life Science industries. Our ‘For Hire’ Daniatech LabMaster was sent on its way to Scotland for a 6 week recipe trial on alternative oat milk. The test provided our customer with hands-on, in-time results to see if the mixer worked for their application requirements. With expansion plans afoot, trialling the equipment before committing to buy makes perfect sense for their growing business.
We also carried out a trial of our own, in-house with the support of Daniatech themselves and the results were outstanding.

Over 120 engineers and technical staff from Alfa Laval distributors around the world, are given the opportunity every month to enter a competition and spec an hygienic pump for a specific customer scenario. And Nick Willetts our Technical Sales and Specialist Projects Manager won it 4 times during 2022!

With the cost of living hitting us all hard, inflation spiralling to levels not seen in decades, and businesses already trying to make up for lost income from a tumultuous few years of trading – we are all looking for ways to save the pennies, become more efficient and still reach those ever demanding sustainability goals.
Wahoo! And we were over the moon to be amongst the finalists shortlisted for the Supply Chain Excellence Awards in the Workforce Planning Award category sponsored by RideTandem. Testament to the amazing team we have at ITS and the hard work that has been put into improving for our customers.
Industrial Trading Solutions Ltd embraced our ‘HAPPINESS’ core value for Mental Health Awareness week, to help break down some of the barriers surrounding emotional, psychological, and social well-being.
We pride ourselves on a great culture and family values at ITS, and want to ensure that all employees are Happy and Healthy, so this week we all took part in activities that encouraged staff to speak about their wellbeing and take time out for themselves.
We set up a ‘Room of Tranquillity’ for relaxation and reflection, a ‘Let’s Talk’ session where we all opened up about how stress manifests in us individually, and ideas to tackle these issues. We also provided fresh fruit to nurture our bodies as well as our minds, and added a little of what we love (Cheesecake and chocolate played a big part in that!).
Staff took part in a day for ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ and agreed we should continue this as a permanent activity going forward, and to top it all off, ITS gave all staff a ‘Bad Day Bonus’ – an extra half day holiday that can be used on that day where you arrive and work and just don’t feel it! Plus we announced the benefit of the Bupa initiative for wellbeing was now available to all staff for emotional and practical support via their 24 hour helpline.
It's ok not to be ok, but it sure helps to have somebody to talk to when you are not in a good place.

Technical Team members Praveen Perinpanathan and Safeer Hussain BEng attended Alfa Laval ‘Troubleshooting and Upgrades’ course in Kolding at the end of April 2022. From investigating common industry process pitfalls and optimisation methods for Pumps, Valves, Tank Equipment and Heat Exchangers, to an engaging and fun team-building evening, it was an action packed week with plenty of networking opportunities and unforgettable experiences!
We would like to thank the Team in Kolding for all their insights and hospitality over the week, from everyone here at ITS.
Tamsin joined ITS as Regional Sales Manager last year and brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience in process flow products, having spent her career in the industry.
Tamsin started working at Worthington Simpson’s as an apprentice in 1998 as the first female apprentice the company had ever taken on. (Worthington Simpson’s became IDP, which then became Flowserve). She did her apprenticeship as a fitter, building horizontal split case pumps, giving her a great introduction into what would become a constant in her life.
Working her way up into the sales office as an Applications Engineer within Flowserve, Tamsin flourished in the sales and marketing environment as the youngest person worldwide to have worked in the department at the time..
With a strong sales and engineering background, Eifion has worked within the food and pharmaceutical industries for over 30 years, including nearly a decade with Alfa Laval. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge in processing systems, multi-discipline project management and experience in providing turnkey solutions to a broad industry base.
