Getting Outdoors in May

With Spring in full swing and Summer just around the corner, going for outings with your loved one may become more frequent. Taking walks in nearby parks or even around the block can be therapeutic for your loved one with dementia and remedies some of the isolation that can be felt by both the caregiver and the person with Alzheimer's disease. Whether you are going on a short walk or visiting a venue, our tips for outings may be helpful.

 

 

 

Create Your Own Sensory Room  

 

People with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia, because of their dementia symptoms, need to be offered help in engaging in multi-sensory stimulation through sensory activities and sensory therapies worked into their everyday activities, especially in late stages. Creating a sensory room at home or planning sensory-based activities is easy.

 
 
 
 

Why Do They Wander?

 

With the weather being nicer outdoors and doors and windows more apt to being left open, the risk of wandering may increase for your loved one with dementia.
