This time has been one of constant change, though our immediate surroundings have been very much the same. Things are changing here in Ecuador, too. We are moving to 'yellow' status in many parts of the country next week, giving more freedom to move about (safely) based on case data by jurisdiction.
Our mainland airports reopen to national and international tourism today. While flights will initially be nowhere near the levels prior to the pandemic, international flights are resuming at approximately 30% of prior capacity.
Even better news - the Galapagos Islands have reopened to local residents. This includes beaches, with specific areas reserved for the most vulnerable among us. All of these reopenings come with strict protocols for mask wearing and social distancing. The Islands will open to international tourists beginning July 1.
We are pleased to be holding our 2020 rates through 2021 and we have our our new booking conditions in place (reach out to me if you need a copy). We are all in need of a change of scenery as well as craving the chance to reconnect with nature. We are happy that the styles of travel we have embraced and promoted for so long - from our land-based Galapagos experiences to our self-directed overland journeys - are exactly the kind of experiences that people are craving as soon as they are ready to venture into the world again.
We are sad to say farewell to a few treasured tourism businesses. Tame, Tren Ecuador and Mansion Alcazar will not be reopening. Our team will proactively contact you with any affected bookings, or if you'd like, please feel free to reach out to your dedicated sales agent.
It will be a 'new' normal to be sure, but we are ready for it. I hope to see you sometime soon. In the meantime, review our latest Covid-19 update which includes detailed information on flight resumptions.
