Getting to Know Our Quaran-team

The Hall of Fame NFL football coach Vince Lombardi once said, "Individual commitment to a group effort -- that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work."

This month's RMI Insider is dedicated to our employees. It is a salute to their service and hard work during these trying times where all of us have been affected by this global pandemic, COVID-19.

2020 marks RMI's 35th anniversary and we have always prided ourselves with the tenure and professionalism of our team. They truly are a special group of people who have persevered to keep the company running strong.

We'd like to introduce them to you individually as they describe how and what they've been doing during this unprecedented time in our nation's history.

Since March my family has had the privilege of working with about 100 volunteers at our church to help pack and distribute food for up to 500 families each week during these challenging times.

Been hunkered down with the family at home and, amazingly, haven't experienced any cabin fever...yet. That's a positive!

Yoga in the morning, Wii games in the evening, comfort food, dark chocolate and LOTS of red wine.

My So-Called Quarantine Life - Alicia Gallagher

When we were first told to gather our things and work from home, I was trapped in a glass case of emotion. (Anchorman anyone?) I was stoked to be working from home but not sure how spending 24/7 with my husband, Ken, and 9 year old daughter, Carly, was going to be. Ken and I thrived, and while Carly and I had our moments with distance learning, we all managed to survive and become closer as a family. Our pup Reggie couldn't be happier to have us home every day.

Carly is keeping busy with dance classes and softball practices via Zoom while Ken and I enjoy Netflix. We're not big TV watchers but when you have nothing else to do, it fills the time. Like most, we tuned in to Tiger King first and then quickly moved on to Schitt's Creek and Ozark.

I have enjoyed my time home. I don't miss getting up at 5:00 am to work out, or dealing with traffic every day.  I miss my coworkers but love that we catch up on Zoom every couple of weeks.

Aside from spending a lot of time at home with my loving wife and two daughters, during the pandemic of 2020, I’ve spent a lot of time taking the Patriots to the Super Bowl six times, the Bruins and Rangers to multiple Stanley Cup Championships, and the Red Sox to back-to-back-to-back-to-back World Series Championships, all on PlayStation of course. No I don’t miss sports at all :-)

A day in my life: Wake up, wonder what day it is. Check the weather to figure out when to take my daily 4-5 mile walk. It's been awesome not having to fight traffic to get to the gym! Decide what flavor coffee to have. Talk to the cat about the day.  Read a book or magazine (I still read PHYSICAL magazines). My favorite activity is Snapchatting with my niece, Sarah, a 13 year old who keeps me young and up-to-date on the social media trends. I still can't do a Tik Tok routine without looking like an idiot, but I'll get there!

My journey through COVID-19 has been a great reminder of what is really important in life. My dad, my nieces, myself and Brodie (my dog) have hiked over 80 miles through the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation. As a family when my boys were younger we used to have game night once a week until they became teenagers and were too cool to hang out with Mom and Dad. I am happy to say our family has brought back game night. I have now mastered our favorite drinks - Moscow Mules and Margaritas.

Dealing with Covid-19 has been challenging, but I focus on what I value and what I am grateful for. Every morning I make a “gratitude list” which keeps my spirits up. It helps me to stop focusing on all the negativity out there. This selfie is my hubby and I at our local AOH club. Social distancing, of course, and wearing masks when not slipping our cocktails. (LOL)

The pandemic has made me appreciate a simpler life. I've kept busy by doing some landscaping, spending time with my girlfriend and walking her dog (exercise for both of us) and binge watching lots of great Netflix shows. The perfect afterwork evening is a nice cigar paired with a glass of bourbon or wine and streaming great music in front of the firepit.

I never knew what it was like to have time on my hands until now! I am enjoying cooking and baking, talking on the phone with friends and so much snuggle time with my dog. My house has never been so organized! What an incredible feeling, taking my time and not being rushed!

Facing the Unknown - Alison Howell

I hate the unknown. I like to know who, what, where and how with everything. Here we are in a pandemic with scary statistics and uncertainties!

One thing that has given me comfort is being able to remain safe by working  from home. At first I wasn't sure how it was going to go or if I'd like it, but it has been awesome! Everything has been smooth sailing. I miss my co-workers but I love seeing everyone's faces on our Zoom catch-ups.

As a family, we supported local restaurants once or twice a week. I've tried every sparkling seltzer known to man (Crooks and Marker is my favorite). I've had to become somewhat of a teacher as my son Aidan navigated through Freshman year with online learning. Super proud of how well he handled it, with outstanding grades. I am missing sports big time. When I got really bored I started looking at new cars, resulting in me buying my new Jeep Compass!

This pic is from a birthday drive-by with my sister Audrey (who I share the birthday with, five years apart to the day, May 1st) and my niece Lian. I call it "quarantine gangstas". Whether it's a socially distant lunch and walk with my Mom, family Zoom calls or drivebys/dropoffs of food, those few, precious moments with family have kept me going during this pandemic.

I have been spending time with my family cooking, doing puzzles and enjoying our pool. I'm also growing an assortment of peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers and basil.

I love slowing down, spending quality time with my husband, Steve. I've been able to appreciate the house we DIY renovated together, drinking coffee every morning in my flower garden watching the hummingbirds and "our" owl. An avid reader, I put a dent in my ever growing To-Be-Read list (favorite this year so far: The Dutch House by Ann Patchett).
