Miami HEAT Mascot Joins
Primary School Assembly
Students and faculty enjoyed a special treat last Friday as Burnie, the Miami HEAT mascot, made a surprise visit to their last Primary School Assembly of the school year. Led by HEAT announcer Mike Baiamonte '81, Burnie led attendees in a "Let's go HEAT!" chant, a workout routine, and a lesson in proper hand washing. To close out the fun, Burnie turned up the music and invited everyone to join him for a dance party!

Ozobots Founder Visits Pioneer Day
Last Friday, third graders celebrated Pioneer Day with a special guest -- Mr. Nader Hamda, Founder and CEO of Ozobots. An inventor and pioneer in technology, Mr. Hamda spoke about his inspiration for creating Ozobots and explained that he wanted to design a robot to be a companion, as well as a learning tool. Lower School students utilize Ozobots in class often - even virtually! - as they recently created an Oregon Trail and programmed Ozobots to navigate the map. Following Mr. Hamda's presentation, students returned to their classes where they showcased all the hard work they put into making Pioneer Day special.

Seniors Share Hope Through Poetry
As a final project, IB Spanish B and Spanish A: Language and Literature seniors participated in a Share Hope through Poetry campaign. Inspired by the poem "Esperanza" by Alexis Valdés, students wrote their own poems about the lessons humanity is learning from this global crisis, and how we will all come out of it as better people. Students focused on the context, audience, purpose, and message of their poems, as well as the use of varying Spanish tenses. The activity served as a culmination of all their years learning Spanish while these encouraging messages of hopefulness have helped students focus on the positive during these challenging times. To watch and listen to a few poems, click on the button.

Mia Estevez '27: Bored No More Podcast
Searching for something to dedicate herself to during quarantine, Mia Estevez '27 launched the Bored No More podcast. It all started when she told her mom she was bored. "She told me to find something productive, and so I did!" Mia said. "It is a fun thing to do and it is kind of like a hobby. I love it because it is something you put time into; researching, practicing recording, having guests. The ideas -- mind, body and soul - came from my amazing mom! After that, I just gave it my own spin." To listen to Mia's podcast on Spotify, click on the button.
