Celebrating Our 2020 Student Milestones

Over the last few weeks, students, families, faculty, and staff have gathered to celebrate our 2020 student milestones with celebratory parades through campus!  We honked, we screamed, we cried, we cheered, and we had a chance to honor our students who have worked so hard. As our seniors, eighth graders, fourth graders, and Sr.K students continue to learn and grow, we are happy to be part of their journeys. Congratulations to our students on their many accomplishments! Miami HEAT Mascot Joins Primary School Assembly

Burnie brought the HEAT to our students and faculty with a surprise appearance at their last Primary School Assembly of the school year! Led by HEAT announcer Mike Baiamonte '81, they did the infamous "Let's go HEAT!" chant, a workout routine, and a lesson in proper hand washing. To close out the fun, Burnie turned up the music and invited everyone to join him for a dance party!

3D-Printed Headbands for PPE

Willy Orozco, Middle School Engineering and Computer Science Chair, has joined the fight against COVID-19 by helping to make PPE for local front line medical workers. So far, he has produced more than 450 3D-printed headbands as part of the MiamiFightingCovid.com community collaboration as makers across South Florida jump in to help create parts for PPE. Mr. Orozco recently delivered the first bunches of headbands and continues to make deliveries to Moonlighter Makerspace, a Digital Fabrication Lab located in Wynwood, where PPE parts are assembled.

Yes We Can!

Recently, Kimi Lampidis '28 participated in a music project with a fresh take on “Yes We Can," an original song written by her father years ago. A producer for Puerto Rican musician José Feliciano heard the song and asked Mr. Lampidis to update the lyrics slightly to reflect what’s going on today. Last week, the music video was released, featuring Kimi singing with Fabi, a 9-year-old rising star in Europe, along with children from around the world. Kimi has been singing since the age of three, and has starred as Molly in “Annie: The Musical” produced by the Miami Acting Company, and Simba in "The Lion King" as well as other plays put on by Miami Children’s Theater. Newsies Forever, Cast Video

The Middle School Drama Department was set to perform Newsies Forever at Area Stage this Spring. Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the show was canceled. Carlos Orizondo, Middle School Drama Faculty and Director of Drama, put together this video to commemorate the cast's journey, and give our community a glimpse of what we were unable to see. Congratulations to the cast and crew, Mr. Orizondo, Marianni Groves, and Rebecca Gonzalez for their work on Newsies Forever! To watch, click on the button.

Mia Estevez '27: Bored No More Podcast

Searching for something to dedicate herself to during quarantine, Mia Estevez '27 launched the Bored No More podcast. It all started when she told her mom she was bored. "She told me to find something productive, and so I did!" Mia said. "It is a fun thing to do and it is kind of like a hobby. I love it because it is something you put time into; researching, practicing recording, having guests. The ideas -- mind, body and soul - came from my amazing mom! After that, I just gave it my own spin." To listen to Mia's podcast on Spotify, click on the button.
