Reflections Literary & Art Magazine
The 2020 edition of Reflections Literary & Arts Magazine has been released, and several Upper School journalism student projects recently won top accolades at the Florida Scholastic Press Association's (FSPA) virtual spring conference. The theme of this year's magazine "Rise" was inspired by current events, with many students submitting pieces they wrote while experiencing quarantine and social distancing. To explore the publication, click on the button. To secure a physical copy of the lit mag, contact Monica Rodriguez, Upper School Journalism Faculty,  at rodrm@gulliverschools.org.

Eugene Li '20: National Merit Scholar
The National Merit Scholarship program awarded scholarships to nine high school seniors in Miami-Dade County last week, including Gulliver's Eugene Li '20. With this prestigious honor, Eugene will receive a National Merit $2,500 Scholarship. This year’s National Merit Scholarship Program began in October 2018 when over 1.5 million juniors in approximately 21,000 high schools took the PSAT/NMSQT. For the second year in a row, Gulliver boasted five semifinalists who all advanced to become finalists. #DancingTogetherApart
Middle School dance students practiced "social dis-dancing" this month, as students identified their feeling surrounding social distancing and created choreography to demonstrate those feelings. Carla Duval, Middle School Dance Faculty and Dance Director, took select choreographies and put together a video to commemorate the project, titled #DancingTogetherApart. Lower School Events Go Virtual
During the Spring months, Lower School students are usually preparing to present and show off their class projects in person. Of course, this year was a little different as the first grade Roxaboxen, second grade Travels Through Literature, third grade Pioneer Day, and fourth grade Florida Day events went virtual. To learn more, click on the button.

A PLACE FOR POSITIVITY

#ServingSmiles
Operation Smile, an Upper School student club, has launched the #ServingSmiles initiative to empower student volunteers, support local restaurants, and show appreciation for local healthcare workers on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. To show gratitude and love for our healthcare heroes, club officer Carmen Hall '22 delivered 50 meals from KLM Culinary LLC to staff members at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, where she is also a volunteer. Since launching the initiative, student clubs have donated over 2,000 meals to frontline workers.

What's Up with Lucas Figueroa '22
During quarantine, this Gulliver sophomore has chosen to focus on the positive and is encouraging others to do the same through his "What's Up with Lucas Figueroa" YouTube show. Past episodes have showcased the good our South Florida community is doing for others during this time, as well as compelling interviews, current event coverage and discussions, and more.
