SCHOOL NEWS AND UPDATES

What's New: Classroom Technology
As you get set to begin remote learning this week, we wanted to share a bit about the new technology we've incorporated into our classrooms. In order to give our teachers and students the best possible online experience, we've enhanced classroom capabilities and our teachers have been busy preparing to launch a new academic year. Click on the button to learn more.

Middle School Yearbook Earns All-Florida Honors

Earlier this month, the 2019-20 Middle School yearbook, “EPIC,” earned an All-Florida Award, as awarded by the Florida Scholastic Press Association. The book notched 10 FSPA All-Florida nods, and four Gold distinctions for its People section, Sports section, Writing and Editing, and Photography and Visuals. Led by Cori Basulto-Fraga, Middle School Journalism Faculty, the yearbook staff created a dynamic, multidimensional, and visually captivating design that is truly “EPIC.”

Siblings Create Tutoring Website
Juan "JP" Cortes '21 and siblings Gonzalo and Maria were recently featured in The Miami Herald as they found a way to help other students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The brothers and sister have created a free tutoring website for use during the new school year and its virtual environment. Any student who needs help can book a tutor, or students can become tutors to help others. Resources include one-on-one time with a teacher or even a face-to-face conversation with a classmate who understands the subject better. To learn more, click on the button.

Alumni Spotlight: Sarah Davidoff '88
Fare to Remember, a catering company owned by Sarah Davidoff ’88, has been sending food to Jackson South to feed busy frontline workers. Once Sarah and her team learned about the process and time it took hospital staff to take off all their protective gear and clean up so they could run to get something to eat, they were set on finding a solution. Fare to Remember began delivering food straight to their floors, allowing workers to eat comfortably without having to rush to the cafeteria. So far, they have provided more than 500 healthy meals. If you are interested in joining in the company's efforts, click on the button.

RESOURCES AND REMINDERS

Mandatory Health Forms
Even as we begin the school year with remote learning, it is critical that all health forms are submitted. If these requirements are not met, your child will not be permitted to return to campus when we resume in-person learning. Once you are logged on to myGulliver, click the "Magnus Health Forms" button. When you log in to your Student Medical Record, any action needed will be marked with a "To Do" flag.

Order Uniforms Online
Families can place their uniform orders online at www.DENNISuniform.com. Due to stores being closed to foot traffic, our uniform provider is offering contactless curbside pickup by appointment and free shipping. Please note that last year's uniforms are approved for wear during the 2020-21 academic year. Click on the button to view dress code requirements, and refer to the August 5 email communication from your child's principal regarding uniform requirements during remote learning.

Remote Learning Guidelines
As we get ready to start the school year in our fully remote model, please take a moment to review our Remote Learning Guidelines. Here, you will find important tips on making remote learning successful, as well as some behavioral expectations that students must abide by. Click on the button to learn more.
