SCHOOL NEWS AND UPDATES

World Kindness Day
On November 13, faculty and staff members schoolwide debuted our new kindness shirts in celebration of World Kindness Day. Additionally, students and faculty posted sticky notes with positive messages, words of encouragement, and compliments around campus to bring a smile to all who saw them. We encourage you to join in on the fun, helping to spread kindness at home by sending a kind text to a friend or family member, giving someone an unexpected compliment, or letting someone you care about know how much they mean to you.

Junior Thespian Festival
On November 7, Gulliver Prep's Middle School Drama Troupe 88015 participated in its first Junior Thespian Virtual Festival. Students received 15 Superior and 12 Excellent ratings, and all their events qualified for state competition. Signs of Gratitude
On Monday, faculty and staff were greeted with messages of gratitude throughout our campuses. Led by the Parents' Association, special messages of thanks, gratefulness, and encouragement were crafted by parents and students to express gratitude and brighten our teachers and staff members' days as we head into the holiday season.

National Signing Day
On November 11, the Athletic Department recognized three outstanding student-athletes on the first National Signing Day of 2020-21. Sophia Fornaris '21 (tennis), Chloe Hernandez '21 (swimming), and Alissa Pinciroli Pascual '21 (water polo) committed to continuing their athletic careers at the collegiate level, and we can't wait to follow their journeys! A Hybrid Dissection
Mrs. Carmona's biology students at the Upper School Miller Campus recently dissected an owl pellet as part of a unit on ecology. As top tier predators, owls (and their pellets) are perfect examples of how organisms can impact their general ecosystem. Thanks to a high-resolution doc camera, every student had a personal experience with the dissection. Students learning from home were able to complete a virtual version of the lab and observe alongside their classmates who are learning on campus.

Honoring Military Personnel
On Veteran's Day, we honor all military personnel who have served and are currently serving, and thank them for their service. This year in observance of Veteran's Day, Lower School and enrichment students in Ms. Grass' classes helped design pieces for a commemorative mural. Names of their veteran relatives appear on the stars, and the mural also features silhouettes of soldiers saluting and handmade paper poppies, the official flowers used to honor veterans. At the Upper School, students and faculty penned 350 letters to be mailed to troops through a partnership with Operation Gratitude, an organization that sends care packages to deployed troops.

Holiday Travel Reminder
As a reminder, if you're planning on traveling or hosting relatives this holiday season, please review our travel policy outlined in the Family-Student COVID-19 Procedures document. This policy states that any student returning to Miami from a foreign destination under a CDC Level 3 Travel Health Notice or under travel restrictions by state or local authorities, or whose household member has returned from such a destination, will be required to stay home for 14 days prior to returning to campus. This includes trips taken during Thanksgiving Recess and Winter Recess. To review all of our Family-Student COVID-19 Procedures, click on the button.
