SCHOOL NEWS AND UPDATES

Thank You!
On November 19, you reminded us how fortunate we are to be part of this community. With the support of more than 300 donors, we far exceeded our goal on Give Miami Day! Because of your generosity, our students and faculty - those that make Gulliver truly unparalleled - can continue to thrive. We thank you, and are so grateful for your support. Staff Spotlight: Matt Telepman
Each week through our Faculty and Staff Spotlight series, we invite our community members to get to know Gulliver Prep teachers and staff members across every division. This week, our Spotlight features Mr. Matt Telepman, Middle School Dean of Students. Click on the button to learn about his History of Rock and Roll class, favorite holiday side dish, goals for the school year, and more.

Primary School Friendship Feast
Prior to Thanksgiving Recess, Primary School students participated in one of Gulliver's favorite traditions: our Friendship Feast! This year, students learning on campus and at home had a chance to spend time together at a socially-distanced assembly followed by a “feast” of breakfast foods. While in-person learners had breakfast in their classrooms, remote students enjoyed breakfast at home and tuned in via Zoom.

Cultural Connect is Back!
Our first Cultural Connect presentation of the year will take place virtually this Wednesday, December 2. Cultural Connect is a series of presentations on social history, art, and culture, presented by our own Mr. Kevin King. A Gulliver faculty member for 30 years, Mr. King has taken generations of students on a journey through the mysteries of the ancient world. For the last six years, he has shared that journey with our parent community through Cultural Connect. Tomorrow, join our master storyteller for an incredible journey through international intrigue, glamour, fashion, espionage, danger, and betrayal. Click on the button to RSVP.

Digital Mass Media Honors
Five Upper School Digital Mass Media students have been recognized as finalists in their respective categories in the National Scholastic Press Association's (NSPA) Spring Individual Contest. This designation places them among the top 10 of all entries submitted, nationally. In addition, the yearbook team's Victoria Poliak '22 earned "Best of the Best" for her submission to the state association's Fall Digital Contest. Click on the button to learn more.

Second Grade Reading Celebration
Inspired by "Balloons over Broadway," the true story behind the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, second grade students created puppets of their favorite book characters and paraded through a festive runway filled with balloons and streamers. They were proud to show off reading strategies to help them learn an author's purpose/lesson, identify tricky words, and increase their reading stamina as they read their favorite books.

Celebrating Diwali
Last month, Primary School students celebrated Diwali, a five-day Festival of Lights that is one of the most widely celebrated Hindu festivals. As part of their Culture Study, students in Mrs. Wicker's class learned about Indian culture and tradition through connecting with a Gulliver family who lived in India. Students also had a chance to experiment with Indian rangoli art, an art form usually made during Diwali and other Hindu festivals in the Indian subcontinent. The purpose of rangoli is to feel strength, generosity, and it is thought to bring good luck.

All-State Musicians
By way of a rigorous audition process, eight Gulliver students have earned Florida Music Education Association’s (FMEA) All-State recognition. Once a student is chosen as an All-State selection, they become ranked as one of the top musicians in the state of Florida. Representing Middle School on the all-state roster are Kaveen Chainani '26 (Mixed Chorus), Gabriela Celic '26 (Treble Chorus),  Ashley Garcia '25 (Treble Chorus), Isabella Giraldez '25 (Treble Chorus), Siena McKelvey '25 (Treble Chorus), and Julia Witherspoon '25 (Treble Chorus). At the Upper School, Sebastian Fernandez '22 (Tenor 1, Upper School, Mixed Chorus) and Salomon Bibas '23 (Bass 2, Upper School, Tenor/Bass Chorus) earned spots on the roster.

School Survey - THIS THURSDAY
This week, we will ask for your feedback through a very brief school survey. On Thursday, December 3, you will receive an email containing a link to the survey, which is being conducted through a third party, SAIS (our independent school accrediting agency). The subject line will read “An invitation from Gulliver Preparatory School” and will come from surveys@sais.org as the sender. Please add surveys@sais.org to your email contacts to avoid having the message go to your spam folder.

The brief survey will take approximately three minutes of your time to complete and will be open through December 10. Your identity will be kept confidential. Thank you in advance for your participation in the survey as your input is most valuable to us.

Safety App Reminder
The Safety App authentication on your mobile device will time out after a few days of inactivity. If your app seems unresponsive after a long break, please open and close the application completely on your device to re-authenticate.
