AEDC Future Fit Meeting at ASUMH Tech Center with Advisory Council

The ASUMH Spring Workforce Education Advisory Council recently met along with local industry leaders about the Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC) Future Fit Training.  Steve Sparks, AEDC Existing Business Resources Division Director, presented information on Future Fit. Future Fit is a training program that prepares individuals for entry-level employment at participating companies throughout Arkansas.  A study by the Manufacturing Institute showed that 80% of manufacturers nationally report a shortage of qualified applicants for skilled production positions. These meetings help evaluate the extent of the skilled worker shortage in Arkansas and seek to combat the problem.

Knox meets with future teachers

Laura Knox, Director of Teacher Education at ASUMH, recently met with students at MHHS about their future plans and the teaching program at ASUMH.

ASUMH's Associate of Science in Education degree allows students to complete the first two years of an education baccalaureate degree. Completion of a baccalaureate degree in education, along with passing required licensure tests, certifies that you can be a teacher in K-6 education.

An ASUMH graduate can obtain the Bachelor of Science in Education Elementary Education from A-State while staying on the ASUMH campus or can transfer to another four-year university.

Awards Presented at ASUMH Faculty Appreciation Luncheon

Congratulations to our faculty on an #AweSUMH year! Full-time faculty were honored on April 30 with a luncheon on Pattee Plaza. Awards were given to the following:

VW Award: Shawn Dennis, Computer Information Systems Instructor
The VW Verified Wonder Woman - Each year, the academic council selects a faculty member who has been nominated by their Dean for outstanding service to the college and community by going the extra mile behind the scenes. The award is generally given to someone who is not in the limelight and is a "thank you" for doing, what is often considered, a thankless job. The "VW" stands for something different each year.

Rising Star Award: Kristina Radivojevich, Biological Sciences Instructor
This new award recognizes a faculty member for demonstrating an exceptional level of dedication and professionalism in their work at the college this year. We are so happy and appreciative to have her as part of our ASUMH team. Congratulations, Kristina Radivojevich!

Academic Affairs Award: Kellie Thomas, English Instructor
This award is for a faculty member that has substantially contributed to the Academic Affairs division during this year.

Service Awards: Kelli Camp, Amy Clark, Lucy Haun, Cathy Leppold, and Denise Malloy
The service award this year went to a group of nursing faculty members that have gone above and beyond to volunteer their time to the institution and community. These faculty members donated countless hours to helping vaccinate our employees and community members.

Special Recognition Awards: Shawn Dennis, Melanie Hodges, Melissa Klinger, Jennifer Rowe-Preyer, Kellie Thomas, and Theressa Walker
The special recognition award is for the Advising Workgroup that has gone above and beyond this year to improve student completion and to provide better advising to keep students engaged and on track!
