WEBINAR

Improving the walkability of African cities

On behalf of the TUMI Network, ICLEI would like to invite you to participate in this webinar on Thursday 31 January 2019 from 15:00 – 16:30 (GMT+2).

Approximately half of daily commutes in African cities are on foot, but pedestrians often put their lives at risk by sharing the road with cars in the absence of dedicated non-motorised transport (NMT) infrastructure. In this first webinar, we will be discussing walking as an important mode of transport for safer, healthier, more accessible and more sustainable African cities.

The webinar will be hosted by Blake Robinson of ICLEI, and distinguished speakers include:

Stefanie Holzwarth, UN-Habitat: Designing streets for safety, accessibility and comfort in African cities

Sean Cooke, University of Cape Town: The return on investments in NMT

Carly Koinange, UN Environment: Implementing NMT policy with innovative financing

Register above for this opportunity to learn from experts in the field, to ask questions of relevance to your city, and to share information about resources, upcoming events and interesting African initiatives with the group. Once you register, you will receive a personal link to connect on 31 January via GoToWebinar.

Please forward this invitation to colleagues who might also be interested in the topic. We look forward to your participation!
