Barcelona enhancing urban nature
Following International Day for Biological Diversity, Barcelona’s efforts to enhance urban nature and natural heritage within the City has been highlighted in an article which celebrates biodiverse cities of the future.
The City of Orlando, Florida, has created an apiary in partnership with the non-profit, Black Bee Honey. It provides honey, allows for beekeeping education, and it supports critical pollinator species like the honey bee.
San Antonio conserves land over aquifer recharge zone
Since 2000, San Antonians have voted to conserve land over the Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone to ensure water quality and quantity for urban residents. The Seco Sinkhole is one of the largest recharge features in the Edwards Aquifer and is protected by a conservation easement held by the San Antonio Edwards Aquifer Protection Program.
African experts and mayors from within the ICLEI network showcased how nature-based solutions and effective planning are key to designing future pandemic-resilient solutions.
The #AfricanCITYFOODMonth campaign will take place from 1 - 31 July 2020 and will be centered around ‘Repositioning Resilient and Nutritious Food Systems in African Cities’.

The extended consultation period is now closed. All inputs to the process will be taken into account in the drafting of the Edinburgh Process report to the CBD and will be presented in the Online Information Session on 2 July.

Parks, health, and CitiesWithNature
In partnership with World Urban Parks, CitiesWithNature developed an informative reflection on how the COVID-19 pandemic affects our parks and our health.
The 2020 report, compiled by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the United Nations Environment Programme, assesses progress to date in meeting global targets and goals related to forest biodiversity.
Chantal van Ham wrote an article for The Nature of Cities which brings together some examples of wonderful initiatives around the world that help us to hear, see and enjoy the magic of nature.
As part of INTERACT - Bio project, an Outreach Programme was implemented in Tanzania over 2 years, raising awareness amongst citizens about the benefits of nature and the importance of protecting it. The article outlines a few of the key lessons that were learnt from the project implementation.
The current global pandemic is calling us to increasingly connect online. CitiesWithNature, a first-of-its-kind initiative, is supporting an online community of practice and enabling learning and action around integrating nature in cities and reconnecting people with nature. We all need nature now, more than ever before.
