MARY ROSE YOUNG NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2018

60 at 60 Exhibition

Mary Rose’s long awaited “60 at 60” Exhibition is officially beginning this weekend…the pieces are all made and the central Giant Chandelier is now on the verge of being hung. To put the seal on such a long awaited and auspicious occasion Mary Rose has decided to hold an Opening Evening “Preview Show” from 7pm to 9pm this Saturday 11th August, and you are most cordially invited. We don't usually hold this kind of evening event...I think the last one would have been about three years ago so Catch it While you Can and come down to the gallery on Saturday...we'd love to see you. From that day forth the gallery will open as usual from Sunday 12th at 11am. One or two of the 60 pieces have already been sold to eager collectors who have popped in over the last couple of weeks but you’d never notice ….the body of work is most impressive. The picture shows 6 examples out of 60 which you can click on to see larger images.

Baby Face

I didn’t need a shove cos I just fell in love…. Mary Rose Young's Face Vases have been around for a while, their eyes faithfully following you as you cross the room. And her latest work with the range of Face Plates has brought the vases back under the spotlight and Mary Rose has made several with her newer “two halves” faces colourway of the plates. But now there’s suddenly a new arrival….a Baby Face Vase…..about 7 inches tall, quite large enough to actually use as a vase, and still smothered with flowers in her hair, and beads and baubles.

Baubles and Ornaments

We recently exhibited at the Atlanta Show and the occasion was the first time we showed the new collection of “Christmas Baubles”. First I discovered that they’re actually called “Ornaments” in the USA and then I was thrilled to get an email from an old friend, Bonnie Mackay, saying how much she adored them. Her opinion was particularly pertinent as she is an expert, perhaps the expert! She has written a book “Tree of Treasures” all about her collection of the finest Christmas Ornaments in the world, and for each one she has a little story about an episode in her life or in her career as a buyer for large American Stores...have a look. But of course we’d say the book was published too early for the definitive Bauble - Mary Rose's... here is Bonnie's book right next an Ornament in Gold New Rose Polka Dot

The Hand Mirror's Tale

The Giant Flower Encrusted Wall Mirror that appeared in March’s newsletter stimulated everybody’s Lateral Thinking Tendency. Mary Rose got a request from a collector in the USA to make a dressing table hand mirror…. And here is what she made. It’s a fairly elegant wooden mirror which she initially paints blue before getting to work with her collection of ceramic flowers. Sophia Loren famously said “At the dressing table every woman has the chance to be an artist” and what better to inspire ones artistic side than art itself? The lady in the USA does not mind her idea being offered to others and so you too could add this ultimate piece of decoration to your “boudoir”.

Pastel Rosebush Design

One of the new designs exhibited in Atlanta was “Pastel Rosebush” and as a new design from the Summer of 18 it features prominently in Mary Rose’s 60 at 60 collection. Rose blooms are clustered together all over the surface of the piece but they’re not so much single roses, more there are clusters of roses, reminding one of a florists’s display “bucket” bursting with differently coloured bouquets of roses tightly packed together. All the blooms are outlined in gold making for a mesmerizing feast for the eyes This piece is a small encrusted flared vase

 Stop The Press!

The Giant Chandelier is now up....While I've been writing this newsletter Andrew and Fred have been undertaking the unenviable job of hoisting this fragile collosus of a chandelier into place. One of the beams in the gallery has been cut clean away to allow the splendour of the piece to be seen without obstruction and if your appetite is at all whetted with this photograph then you must try and visit the gallery to appreciate its magnificence
