Screening: Maestra, Mon 26 February, London

The 1961 Cuban Literacy Campaign dramatically changed Cuba's literacy levels in one year, organizing over 100,000 volunteers - over half of who were women - to teach in the rural areas of the country. This doc tells the uplifting story of nine of these women.

Screening: Buena Vista Social Club: Adios, Wed 28 February, Hereford

Picking up from Wim Wenders' Oscar nominated 1998 documentary about the Buena Vista story, this sequel and companion piece not only chronicles the late-life careers of the Buena Vista stars (many of whom have since died) but also tells their fascinating, often painful back stories, locating them and their music more deeply within Cuba's rich social and historical contexts.

Ahmed Dickinson & Eduardo Martin, 3 March - 6 April, Surrey, Cumbria, Scotland

Cuban acoustic guitarist Ahmed Dickinson Cardenas has dedicated a lot of energy to bringing Cuban composers and especially the work of Cuban composer Eduardo Martin to the attention of audiences in Britain. This is another special chance to see the duo live in action.

Barbaro Fines y su Mayimbe, Fri 9 March, London 

Super popular salsa timba group finally make their UK debut in London! Mayimbe is a mix of Cuban and Peruvian musicians brought together by Cuban Barbaro Fines when he relocated to Peru in 2010.  Barbarito’s originally composed music was an instant hit in Peru, and when the demos reached Europe, they became a popular part of DJs playlists. 

Carlos Garaicoa, 13 April - 3 June, London

Solo show for Cuban multi-disciplinary visual artist Garaicoa, who works across painting, photography and architecture. The show will reflect on the city - its limitations and possibilties and potentials.

Danay Suarez, Sun 22 April, London

Having risen through Cuban hip hop, with a tremendous voice, Suárez has been compared to Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu. She managed to nab four Latin Grammy nominations this year (including Album of the Year and Best New Artist), and is poised to make some serious intercontinental noise.

Ariwo + Soundspecies, Mon 23 April, London

Ariwo brings together Pouya Ehsaei and three of London's most influential Cuban musicians: Hammadi Valdes, Yelfris Valdes and Oreste Noda. Ariwo aim to connect their native musical traditions to electronic music in a way that pushes beyond traditional Cuban and Iranian identity, creating a sound that does not belong to any specific culture. Soundspecies (live), explore the territory between traditional rhythmic percussion music and electronic dance music.

Eliades Ochoa + Buena Vista Social Club:Adios, Wed 25 April, London 

The former Buena Vista Social Club frontman makes his solo debut at the Royal Albert Hall, fronting his own band. A winner of several Latin Grammy nominations and awards, Ochoa is known as ‘Mr Chan Chan’ in his hometown of Santiago de Cuba. His unique guitar and vocal style has made him a champion of the string and percussion-driven Cuban country music. Part of La Linea 2018. The show will be followed by a special screening of the new documentary about the BVSC artists.

Gente de Zona, Thu 24 May, London

Gente de Zona's UK debut last year brought us their irresistible fusion of reggaeton, timba and other Cuban music genres delivered by a big band with exuberance and power. Since then Gente de Zona has gone from strength to strength with the single Si no Vuelves and their collaboration with Jennifer Lopez with one of the biggest hits of last summer on Ni Tu, Ni Yo.
