Reps. Juan Vargas, Bill Huizenga Legislation to Modernize Credit Union Board Requirements Passes House

 
The U.S. Representatives Juan Vargas (CA-52) and Bill Huizenga (MI-04), members of the House Financial Services Committee, announced the passage of their legislation to update the requirements for federal credit union board meetings in the House of Representatives.
 
 
 
 

Introducing Our New Intern Eli Cappelen!

We are pleased to welcome Eli Cappelen as our new intern at the South County Economic Development Council. Eli will serve as a Small Business Community Initiative Consultant at South County EDC, where he will help promote the Access to Capital Campaign. His tasks will include assessing small businesses' needs for capital, coordinating outreach efforts, and collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance access to financial resources for businesses in low-income areas.

Eli's internship is sponsored by a grant through Civic Community Partners.

 
 
 

 City of Chula Vista Small Business Survey 2025

 
 
 
 

Engage with the community through an online survey and focus groups designed to uncover the challenges and successes faced by small business owners.

Small Business Survey - Deadline Extended to February 28

This survey seeks input from a diverse range of businesses, including restaurants, retail, manufacturing, and healthcare. All local small business owners, including those with multiple locations, are encouraged to participate.

 
 
 

 

 

Empowering Future Dispatchers: San Diego Sheriff's Office Academy

 
The San Diego Sheriff's Office recently launched the Responder Ready Public Safety Communications Academy, a 12-week program designed for high school students interested in becoming dispatchers. This hands-on academy provides essential training in professionalism, ethics, and critical decision-making skills.
 
 
 
 

PFAS Education Update: Second set of PFAS testing data received

Sweetwater Authority (Authority) has launched a public information campaign in advance of federal U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations surrounding per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), man-made chemicals found in common household items. PFAS is a widespread issue that water providers globally are working to address due to its prevalence in society.
 
 

 
 

Crisis Stabilization Unit Expansion

The County is enhancing its Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) network through a partnership with Sharp HealthCare, adding six specialized beds at the Chula Vista Medical Center. Approved by the Board of Supervisors, this expansion will cater to Medi-Cal patients and marks the region's seventh CSU, with an eighth anticipated in El Cajon later this year.
 
 

 
 

Community Clean Energy 2025 Grant Program

The Community Clean Energy Grant Program is now open for 2025 applications. This initiative, by the San Diego Foundation and San Diego Community Power, offers over $600,000 in grants to nonprofits for local clean energy projects. Grant amounts range from $25,000 to $100,000, supporting initiatives that enhance community health, sustainability, and economic benefits.
